How to Avoid Awkward Moments
Even on an ordinary day you may find yourself experiencing an awkward moment, leaving you speechless or feeling embarrassed if you do not know how to defuse or solve the situation you are in. Awkward moments come from embarrassing accidents (such as tripping in front of all of your co-workers), ironies or conversations with others that may lead to uncomfortable conversations or feelings between those involved. Avoiding awkward moments is possible by preparing for tasks and communication with others ahead of time.

1
Keep conversations light when speaking with those you have just met by avoiding deep conversations or potentially offensive jokes or topics of discussion. Hold off on speaking on more important issues for when you get to know the person better.
-
2
Avoid revealing too many details about yourself (including your background, family life and plans for your future) as others may feel shy or not ready to share the same information with you.
-
-
3
Offer basic compliments that are not personal such as complimenting someone's recent success or new job.
-
4
Avoid lingering on topics that involve talking about your own success, which may sound like bragging and make others feel uncomfortable around you. When getting to know someone this may also seem rude or pretentious to those who do not yet know your true personality.
-
5
Apologize if you find yourself already in an awkward situation or conversation because of something you said or did. Instead of freezing up or feeling anxiety about how to apologize, make the apology simple and direct to help defuse the awkward situation quickly.
