Facebook lets you send text messages to your account from a mobile device. Before the text message feature, you had to log in to Facebook through a computer and type your update into a text box. Maximize the mobile feature by registering your cellphone number through your Facebook account. Your message will have to be text-only, as photos or videos will not show up in your update.

Instructions

      Click "Account" in the Facebook main menu, then select "Account Settings." Click "Mobile" to activate Facebook Mobile.

      Follow the instructions to text "f" to Facebook (32665) and wait for your phone to receive a text with a confirmation code. Enter the confirmation code into the text box on Facebook Mobile to verify your mobile device.

      Update your status on Facebook by sending an text message to FBOOK (32665).

Tips & Warnings

  • Configure your account settings in Facebook to send an SMS when someone replies to your status update.

  • Poke your friends by texting "poke Firstname Lastname" to FBOOK (32665).

  • Write on a friend's Wall by texting "wall Firstname Lastname" followed by the message.

  • Monitor your cellphone bill if you do not have unlimited text messaging to determine if you need to change your plan to accommodate a higher frequency of messages.
