How to Embed a Photo on Tumblr
Tumblr provides specific icons for specific types of posts, allowing you to access post settings formatted for text, photo, video, audio, links, chats and quotes. The Photos post icon lets you upload one photo as the main feature of your post or several photos in a slide show, but that doesn't help you if you want to add photos to other posts, such as text. When you create a post other than Photo, Tumblr provides the option to embed photos hosted elsewhere online.

Navigate to Tumblr.com and log in to your account.

Click an icon on your Dashboard to create a new text, photo, video, audio, link, quote or chat post.

Click the "Image" icon -- a picture frame with a flower in it -- in the toolbar just above the "Description" or "Body" field.

Type the direct URL for the photo you want to embed into the "URL" field, and then click the "Insert" button. You will see a live preview of your image in the "Body" or "Description" field.
