How to Hard Reset a Droid

The Motorola Droid is a smartphone that runs the Android operating system. Sometimes a Droid may become misconfigured or suffer data loss that renders the system unusable. You can fix many of these problems by initiating a hard reset. A hard reset restores the Droid back to its factory-released software configuration. This operation will erase all information on your phone and should be used as a last resort.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off your Droid. If is stuck in a restart loop or will not turn off, open the battery cover on the back of the phone and remove your battery, then reconnect it.

    • 2

Press and hold the "Power" button while also holding the "X" key on your phone's keyboard. A yellow triangle icon appears on-screen to indicate that you have booted into the recovery program.

    • 3

Press the "Volume Up" and "Camera" buttons together on your phone. They must be pressed at the exact same time, so this may take a few attempts.

    • 4

Use the arrow keys on your keyboard to select "Format" from the list of options, then press the selection key to select it. Your phone will now undergo a hard reset to its original configuration.
