Building a stingray is a great way to incorporate sea life into educational curriculum. This fun and interactive craft can help children learn about this unique creature while educating them on the ocean. Discuss stingrays, as well as other sea life within this ocean discovery lesson. Better understand the stingray and its surroundings through this enjoyable craft.
Step 1
Gather the necessary materials to begin the craft. Make the stingray using coffee filters, construction paper, glue, googly eyes and washable markers. Incorporate other craft materials where necessary, giving unique additions to the project.

Step 2
Cut a regular-sized coffee filter into thirds. Use this triangular piece as the body of the stingray. Color the coffee filter the different colors and patterns using washable markers. Gently sprinkle the coffee filter with water allowing the marker to run, creating a tie-dyed, ocean-like appearance. Once the coffee filters have dried, trace them onto a piece of construction paper, mounting them to the paper with glue.
Step 3
Add further detail to the stingray. Draw a face, bringing this cartoon-inspired craft to life. Complete the look with glued-on googly eyes and a pipe cleaner for the barbed tail. Use the other two coffee filters to make additional stingrays.
Step 4
Use glue to attach a Popsicle stick to the underside of the stingray for a puppet-like model. Create a more ocean-based look by making an aquarium for the stingray. Glue the stingray to a full piece of paper. Decorate the piece of paper as an ocean scene, adding other fish, sand and seaweed. For a true ocean look, cover the piece of construction paper with blue cling wrap, creating an all-encompassing aquarium appearance.
