How to Get Kyogre in Pokemon Ruby

Kyogre is a legendary Pokemon that serves as the mascot for "Pokemon Sapphire." This Water-type Pokemon comes with high offensive power, which complements its various special attacks, such as Hydro Pump and Ice Beam. You won't find Kyogre in "Pokemon Ruby;" instead, you will have to capture it on "Pokemon Sapphire" and then trade it to the desired version of the game.

Instructions

    • 1

Travel to Mossdeep City, which is on an island located southeast of Lilycove City.

    • 2

Surf southwest until you reach Route 126.

    • 3

Dive into the dark spot in the water to access an underwater passage to Sootopolis City.

    • 4

Travel northwest through the city until you meet Wallace, the Sootopolis Gym Leader and Steven, the Pokemon League Champion. After you talk to them, these characters will guide you to the Cave of Origin.

    • 5

Navigate through the cave's path, which spirals downward through several floors. If you can't find the ladders throughout the cave, use the Flash ability to illuminate the area. Wild Golbat, Zubat and Sableye inhabit the cave, so spray Repel if you don't want to encounter them.

    • 6

Engage and capture Kyogre at the bottom of the Cave of Origin. The Pokemon is at level 45, so battle it with a creature of equal strength. It is weak to Grass and Electric-type attacks; however, Steel, Fire, Water and Ice-type attacks won't inflict much damage on it. Once Kyogre's health bar is low, use a status-impairing move, such as Hypnosis, to increase the chances of a successful capture. Use Ultra Balls to capture it, rather than the rare Master Ball.

    • 7

Travel to the nearest Pokemon Center.

    • 8

Use the Trade Service to send Kyogre to your copy of "Pokemon Ruby."

Tips & Warnings

  • Kyogre's natural ability is Drizzle, which will boost the power of Water-type attacks, while decreasing the power of Fire-type attacks throughout the length of the battle. The ability will also decrease the power of Solar Beam, a Grass-type attack; however, it will increase the accuracy of Thunder, an Electric-type attack.
