How to Not Save Sent Mail on Gmail

Most free, Web-based email services, such as Hotmail or Yahoo! Mail, provide an option to disable the saving of messages sent from your account. Google's Gmail service does not provide this option, although there is a technical work-around using the Gmail filter system. Once the filter is in place, your Sent Mail folder will be consistently empty and an archive of your sent messages will no longer exist on Google's servers.

Instructions

    • 1

Navigate to gmail.com and log in to your account using your user name and password.

    • 2

Click the "Create Filter" link under the Search box.

    • 3

Enter your email address into the "From:" field in the filter dialog.

    • 4

Click "Next Step," then click the checkbox next to the "Delete it" option.

    • 5

Click "Save Filter" to apply your changes and purge your Sent Mail folder.
