While the slouchy boyfriend trend in shorts is geared up to take over the summer of 2011, you can be sure that slim, skinny jeans shorts will still be seen and worn with aplomb. Like skinny jeans, shorts in stretch denim fabric work to slim your legs, especially if they're worn over black tights. Making your own skinny jean shorts is very simple and one way to recycle a pair of skinny jeans that have faded or worn out.
Things You'll Need
- Pair of shorts with length you like
- Pencil or chalk
Place your skinny jeans on a flat surface with the legs spread apart.
Place your shorts on top of the skinny jeans. Match them up so the waistbands are flush with each other.
Draw a line on the jeans where the legs of your shorts end. If you are using dark jeans, use a piece of chalk instead of a pencil.
Cut along the line you drew on your skinny jeans, cutting both layers of fabric at the same time.
Throw your skinny jean shorts through the wash and dry cycle in your washing machine a few times to get the full fringe effect. Add 2 inches of length when you are cutting your jeans if you want the bottoms to be hemmed instead of frayed. Pin up the extra length and sew a hem at the bottom with your sewing machine or take them to tailor to have the jeans professionally sewn.
