How to Make an Avocado Last Longer

Save

Inside the dark green shell of an avocado is a light-colored fruit that is cooling, nutty and slightly buttery tasting. Although avocados are high in fat, most is the monounsaturated kind -- meaning it won't raise your cholesterol level. But since the fruit is also high in calories you can snack on an avocado over a few days and store the rest.

Things You'll Need

  • Plastic wrap
  • Keep the avocado in your refrigerator's crisper. Don't place apples in the same bin to avoid speeding up the ripening process.

  • Remove the avocado from the refrigerator and allow it to ripen on the counter for two or three days.

  • Wrap sliced avocado in plastic cling wrap. Refrigerate the pieces to keep them from turning mushy.
