How to Gem a Shadow Priest
In World of Warcraft, the priest class can fill two different combat roles. Priests who put their talent points into the discipline and holy specializations are powerful healers, while priests who specialize in the shadow tree are damage dealers that cast powerful shadow spells, such as damage-over-time and direct damage magic on enemy targets. Knowing how to find the right gems to socket your weapons and armor is an important way to maximize damage output, survival and overall effectiveness.

1
Open your character screen and look through every piece of gear that has gem sockets. Make a list of how many of each color of gem you need to buy to fill every socket.
-
2
Go to the player Auction House in a capital city and speak with an Auctioneer. On the left-hand side of the window that appears, click on the "Gem" tab. In the search window on the top, right-hand side of the window, type in the name of the gem you wish to purchase.

-
3
Purchase as many Brilliant Inferno Ruby gems as you have red sockets in your gear. These gems give a 40-point increase to intellect, which is the best stat for shadow priests.
-
4
Purchase as many Reckless Ember Topaz gems as you have yellow sockets in your gear. These gems increase intellect by 20 points, but also increase haste rating which makes your casting speed faster and your damage-over-time effects do more damage.
-
5
Purchase as many Purified Demonseye gems as you have blue sockets in your gear. These gems also increase intellect by 20 points and increase spirit by 20 points, which increases the rate by which you refill your mana bar.
-
6
If you have a meta socket on your helmet, purchase a Burning Shadowspirit Diamond that gives you 54 intellect points and a 3 percent increase to all critical strike damage. For this gem to have an effect, you must already have at least three red, purple or orange gems socketed.
-
7
Leave the Auction House and get the gems from your mail. Open your character screen once more and hold down shift while right-clicking on a piece of gear to open the Item Socketing window. Place the appropriate gems into the sockets and press the "Socket Gems" button once finished.
-
8
Repeat this until all of your gems are socketed into your gear.
