How to Word an in Lieu of Favors Donation thumbnail
Notification of a donation can be put in one of many places at a wedding reception, including the dinner menu, table numbers or place cards.

Many engaged couples are choosing to donate to a charitable organization in lieu of giving their guests traditional wedding favors. Many choose an organization that is dear to them or, perhaps, one they volunteer for or make donations to themselves. When choosing this option, the couple should notify guests that a donation has been made in their name to a certain organization instead of them receiving a favor. This is quite simple and can be worded how the bride and groom wish.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine where to notify your guests that you have made a donation in lieu of giving a wedding favor. You can put this information on a place card at their seat, on the wedding dinner menu or in the wedding program.

    • 2

Word the donation announcement so the guests are aware they will not receive a favor. For example, "A donation has been made on your behalf to [organization name] in lieu of favors."

    • 3

Explain your charity choice. If the charity is personal to you, write a brief note on why you chose this charity and why it is special to you. For instance, if you are donating to the American Cancer Society, tell the guests a brief story about how cancer has touched your life and why this is a worthy organization.

Tips & Warnings

  • You do not have to disclose the amount of the donation.
