How to Make a Fake Lollipop

When you are decorating for a birthday party, make the event more festive by putting out a few thematic decorations. For example, create giant fake lollipops out of a few different materials that you can set out to make the party feel like a candy wonderland. You can find all of the craft materials needed to make a fake lollipop decoration at any arts and crafts supply store.

Things You'll Need

  • Polymer clay
  • Wooden dowel, 1/4-inch thick, 8 inches long
  • Cookie tray
  • Tacky glue
  • Clear acrylic glaze
  • Paintbrush
  • Roll out 8 oz. of green polymer clay into a coil that measures 1/2-inch wide and 12 inches long. Repeat to create a red and yellow coil of the same size.

  • Stack the three coils together onto a table top, laying each one above the other, then curl the stack into a flat spiral. Start at the right side of the flat stack, and curl the coils into a spiral by turning the end onto itself. Continue until you reach the other end of the stacked coils. Smooth the ends down to make them flush with the spiral.

  • Insert a wooden dowel into the flat spiral, pushing it 2 inches into the clay. Remove the wooden dowel, which will leave behind a hole that perfectly matches the dowel.

  • Place the flat spiral onto a cookie tray and bake it in an oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 20 minutes. Let the spiral cool for 30 minutes before handling it.

  • Squeeze tacky glue into the hole in the flat spiral, filling it half-way full. Insert the wooden dowel back into the hole, and hold it in place for 10 minutes. The tacky glue will secure the wooden dowel inside the spiral.

  • Paint a thin layer of clear acrylic glaze over the lollipop spiral using a paintbrush, and allow the glaze to dry for 30 minutes. This will make the lollipop look shiny and more realistic.
