How to Delete Skype Totally From My Computer

Skype is the ideal way to talk to friends, family and business associates without the need to pay for long-distance phone calls. The service, which is free if you place a call from your computer to another user's computer, requires software to run. Software does not always install properly, though, so you may need to uninstall it from your computer if you wish to try installing it again. It is also possible to uninstall Skype if you no longer plan to use the service.

  • Quit Skype, if the program is running. Right-click on the "Skype" icon in the lower right corner of the screen, and click "Quit."

  • Save your information if you plan to reinstall Skype at another time. Click on "Start" and then type "Run." Press "Enter."

  • Enter "%appdata%\skype" in the text box. Click on "OK." Right-click on any of the folders you want to save, and click "Copy." Save the contents to any other secure place on your computer.

  • Click on "Start." Type "Run," and then press the "Enter" key. Enter "appwiz.cpl." Click on "OK."

  • Right-click on "Skype" in the list that appears. Click "Remove" to delete the Skype software.

  • Return to the Run menu. Type "%appdata%" and then click "OK." Right-click on the Skype folder, and then click "Delete." Check that this folder is fully deleted by navigating to "C:\Program Files." If you see a Skype or SkypePM folder, delete it.

  • Go back to the the Run menu, and type "regedit." Click on "OK." Click the "Edit" menu, and then click "Find."

  • Type "Skype" in the "Find" box. Delete all of the entries related to Skype that appear in the results list.
