How to Perforate Paper at Home

Perforating paper at home can be useful for creating your own set of business cards or tickets that need to be easily separated. You can also use perforations to make decorative borders around greeting cards and along the edges of scrapbook pages. While large manufacturers of commercially perforated paper use heavy-duty perforation machines, you can create perforations with a simple cutting tool and a perforations attachment.

Things You'll Need

  • Rotary cutter
  • Perforation attachment
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Remove the cutting blade from a rotary cutter according to the manufacturer's instructions. If you do not have instructions available, inspect the pin that holds the wheel steady on the handle to determine how it needs to be removed.

  • Insert the perforation attachment in place of the rotary cutter and slide the pin back through the handle and attachment to hold it in place.

  • Roll the perforation attachment wheel over the paper where you want to perforate it. To make specific designs, first draw them lightly with a pencil and follow them with the blade. To perforate straight lines, follow the edge of a ruler with the blade.
