How to Search YouTube by Date

YouTube is an online video library that allows individual users to upload their own videos, as well as record labels, television networks and other companies to upload copyrighted content they own. One important feature of YouTube is that the site is highly organized, such as by content-specific attributes such as a video's title and "tags" a user ascribes to it. Sort your YouTube search results by date to narrow your scope only to videos uploaded within a certain time frame.

  • Enter your desired search terms into the main YouTube "Search" field at the top of the webpage. For example, if you're searching for videos about thoroughbred horses, input "thoroughbred horses" and click "Enter."

  • Sort your video results in reverse-chronological order of the dates they were uploaded, which presents you with the most-recently uploaded videos first. Click "Filter and Explore" and then "Upload Date."

  • Narrow your results to include only videos uploaded within specific time frames. Click "Filter and Explore," then click one of the following: "Uploaded Today"; "Uploaded This Week"; or "Uploaded This Month."

  • Search for videos that document events that occurred on a specific date -- regardless of when the video was actually uploaded -- by including the date among your initial search terms. If, for example, you want to search videos from a certain singer's February 19, 2011 concert, input her name alongside the date and click "Enter."
