YouTube is a free, online video hosting service. Since it doesn't charge users to upload content to its servers or view it there, it generates revenue using ads it places on certain videos. Although some videos contain video-based ads it isn't possible to remove, others use "banner" ads you remove simply by clicking out of them as you would an annoying pop-up ad.
Wait for the video in question to begin playing. The ad doesn't display until your video begins, and attempting to click out of something that hasn't appeared yet just slows the video's loading.
Click the "x" in the top, right corner of the ad and wait for it to close out. Depending on the speed of your Internet connection, it may take five to ten seconds for the ad to close.
Re-close the ad each time you reload the video or visit it another time. Unless you keep the video open in your browser and re-watch it before closing out of it, the ad re-appears each time you watch the video.
Tips & Warnings
- Remember, it isn't possible to click out of video-based ads, which show before some presentations of TV-shows, music videos and other corporately-uploaded content.
