How to Import a TIFF Into an Excel Spreadsheet

Excel spreadsheets are often thought of as grid cell blocks filled with numbers or in some cases, words and numbers. Excel spreadsheets were created to hold more than just keyboard characters, however. You can import graphic files such as TIFFs into Excel spreadsheets to help break up the monotony of one number after another or to illustrate the information being presented.

  • Open Microsoft Excel. Click the "File" tab and select "Open." Browse to the spreadsheet and double click its file name.

  • Click the "Insert" tab at the top of the work area and click the "Picture" button. Navigate to the location of the TIFF on the computer. Pull down the "All Pictures" menu and select "Tag Image File Format" to narrow the search.

  • Double click the TIFF file to insert it into the spreadsheet. Click the TIFF and drag it to your preferred location.
