How to Make a Butterfly Braid Out of Craftlace

Craftlace, which is also called plastic lace or plastic strings, can be used to make a butterfly braid. A butterfly braid consists of loops, or wings, of craftlace that are interlocked into a braid. When the loops are pulled tight, they form smooth half-circles on the sides of the braid. Make your own butterfly braid out of two different colored pieces of craftlace and wear it as a bracelet or attach it to your bag or key ring. You can even make one with your friend's two favorite colors and then give it to her as a gift.

Make another loop in the first lace and insert that loop into the second lace's loop. Pull the second lace tight to close its loop around the first lace's loop. Make a loop with the second lace and insert it into the first lace's loop. Pull the first lace tight to close its loop around the second lace's loop. At this point you will start to see the half-circles forming on the sides of the braid.

Follow the pattern and continue braiding until the butterfly braid has reached the desired length. Take the lace with which you would create the next loop and thread it through the remaining loop. Pull the laces tight to finish making the braid.
