How to Install the OS on a BlackBerry Bold 9000

Installing the new BlackBerry operating system on your Bold 9000 series will keep you up to date with all the latest gossip and friend requests with Social Feeds, allow you to surf faster with the improved Web browsing capabilities, and get new and improved multimedia functions. There are two different ways that you can install the OS onto your Bold phone: from your computer to your phone with a USB cable or right from your phone's software update menu. Install the new OS in a few easy and quick steps.

Instructions

  1. From Computer

      Connect your Bold 9000 to your computer with a USB cable cord.

      Click "Start" to open your Start menu. Click "Programs," then "Research In Motion." Click "BlackBerry Application Web Loader 1.0" to open the Application Loader (see Resources for a download if you don't have it already).

      Click "6 OS Update" (see Tips).

      Follow the on-screen instructions to completely and properly install the OS onto your BlackBerry Bold 9000 Series.

      Disconnect the USB cable cord from your phone when the installation is complete.

    From Phone

      Click the "BlackBerry" button on your phone to access the Bold 9000 Home screen.

      Click "Options," then click "Advanced Options."

      Click "Wireless Update" at the bottom of the Options screen. Click "Next."

      Click "Check For Updates." Click "6 OS Update" to install the new OS on your Bold (see Tips).

      Power your phone off, then turn it back on after 10 seconds when the installation process is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • As of May 2011, the BlackBerry 6 OS is the newest Operating System available. The Bold 9000 comes equipped with the previous BlackBerry 5 OS; therefore, you can only install 6 OS or future OS upgrades as they become available. It is inadvisable to install older versions of BlackBerry OS, as your phone may not support the previous systems.
