How to Turn on WiFi on a Dell 1501


The Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop debuted in 2006 as a lower cost laptop, originally sold under $1,000. The laptop shipped with Microsoft Windows XP, but is also supports Windows Vista. The Inspiron 1501 is capable of connecting to 802.11 b/g wireless networks, and the Wi-Fi antenna can be disabled or enabled on command. You can toggle the antenna on and off via the keyboard and through the operating system.

  • Hold down the function "Fn" key, then press "F2" at the top of the keyboard. This toggles the wireless antenna on and off. If wireless has been turned on, the green "Wi-Fi" light next to the power button will be on.

  • Click "Start," then click "Network and Internet Connections". This opens a control panel application that allows you to manage your laptop's connectivity.

  • Click "Network Connections" and Windows will display the currently configured Internet connections on your computer.

  • Right-click your wireless connection, then click "Enable." By default this is labeled "Wireless Network Connection," but this may have been changed. You can recognize the wireless connection by the green bars in the icon, which represent a wireless signal.
