How to Install Themes in Outlook 2010

If you are not a fan of the silver default theme in Microsoft Outlook 2010, you can install a different theme through the program’s Options settings. Installing a new theme changes the background color for many elements of the user interface, such as the message headers, the main program window and the Navigation Pane. Note that when you apply a new theme to Outlook 2010, the theme is also automatically applied to the entire Office 2010 suite, such Word 2010 and Excel 2010.

  • Open the "File" menu, and then choose "Options."

  • Click the "General" tab if it isn't already opened.

  • Click the "Color scheme" drop-down box in the User Interface section, and then select the theme you want to use. You can choose a sliver, black or blue theme.

  • Click "OK" to save your changes. The new theme is immediately applied.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also change the theme in other Office 2010 programs -- such as Excel -- using the same instructions.
