How to Embroider a Nose on a Crochet

How to Embroider a Nose on a Crochet thumbnail
Stuffed animal noses are generally made in a triangular shape.

Your crochet character or animal project will have a better appearance when finished with hand embroidered embellishments and facial features. The nose is soft and satiny when made with embroidery thread. The embroidered nose is child friendly and much safer than a plastic or pom pom appendage. The padded satin stitch gives a puffy, more dimensional look to the nose. Embroider a nose onto a crochet project before or after the body and head have been stuffed.

Instructions

    • 1

Thread an embroidery needle with a 3-strand piece of embroidery floss. Tie a knot at the end of the floss.

    • 2

Insert the tip of the needle into the side of the top area of the nose. Pull the thread through the crochet stitch in the yarn until the knotted end of the thread catches in the fiber to secure it in place. Insert the needle through the yarn close to the first stitch and make a straight stitch across the top of the nose.

    • 3

Push the needle down into the side of the crocheted nose area. Bring the needle out at an angle toward the center of the face. The needle tip should be below the center of the long stitch you made at the top of the nose. Pull the needle out of the crocheted nose.

    • 4

Bring the needle up to make a stitch from the center bottom to the side of the top of the nose. Repeat the third stitch on the other side of the nose to finish a triangle shape with the three long stitches. If the nose area is rather large make, a series of outline stitches rather than using the three long stitches.

    • 5

Make a series of vertical stitches inside of the triangular shape from one side of the nose to the other until it is loosely filled in.

    • 6

Stitch a top layer of horizontal stitches over the vertical ones using the initial triangle shape as a guide. Stitch over the triangle and down through the yarn on the other side of the nose. Bring the needle back up through the yarn and stitch over the vertical stitches again until the nose is filled in. The embroidered nose will have a slightly padded effect.
