How to Replace Colors With Transparent in GIMP


When you are designing images, you might like to make the background transparent if you are going to use it over the top of another image or as an icon. GIMP (Gnu Image Manipulation Program) is a software raster graphics editor, available for download for Windows, Mac OSX and Linux. You can use GIMP to edit photos and produce animated images and icons. You can replace colors with a transparent effect in GIMP with a couple of clicks.

  • Open the image that you wish to edit in GIMP.

  • Click on "Select." Click on "By Color."

  • Click on the color on the image that you wish to turn into a transparent area.

  • Click on the "Edit" menu. Click on "Clear" to turn the color into a transparent area.
