How to Strike Out Text on a Forum

Save

Striking through, or striking out, portions of text while in a forum places a line directly through the center of the word or phrase you are striking out. Using this allows you to point out "checked off" items on a list or make a point regarding certain words or phrases while in the forum. The exact method for striking out text while in a forum depends on the code or "text editor" that the individual running the forum uses.

BB Code

  • Type the value "[s]" before the word or phrase you are striking out.

  • Enter the word or phrase directly after the "[s]" value without any spaces (For example "[s]Strike").

  • Type the value "[/s]" directly after the word or phrase without using any spaces or punctuation (For example "[s]Strike[/s]"). A line appears through the text once you submit your forum post.

HTML Code

  • Type the value "<del>" in front of the word or phrase you are striking out.

  • Enter the words or phrase right after the "<del>" value (For example "<del>Strike).

  • Type the value "</del>" directly after the word or phrase (For example "<del>Strike</del>"). A line goes through the text when you submit your post in the forum.

Text Editor

  • Click the "Advanced Editor" or "Text Editor" tab in the forum.

  • Type the word or phrase you are striking out.

  • Highlight the word or phrase with your cursor.

  • Click the "Strike Through" or "Strike Out" icon in the text toolbar. This icon is likely letters with a line through them.

  • Click "Submit." A line is placed through the center of the chosen text.
