      Shut down your computer. It is important to have the power turned off when installing network hardware. The computer does not have to be unplugged, but it should be shut down.

      Connect the telephone cord. Plug one end of the cord into the phone jack on the wall. Plug the other end into the telephone port on the back of your Qwest DSL modem.

      Connect the Ethernet cable. The Ethernet cable looks like an oversized telephone cord. Plug one end into the Ethernet slot on the back of the Qwest DSL modem. Plug the other end of the cable into the Ethernet port on the back of your computer.

      Turn the power on to the DSL modem. Plug the power cable for the Qwest modem into the wall and connect the other end to the back of the modem. There is no power button. Power will be supplied as soon as the modem is plugged into the wall. Lights on the modem will blink to indicate that it is receiving programming from Qwest. A steady green light indicates that programming is complete and that Internet access is available.

      Turn on the computer and allow it to boot up. The network connection will be detected automatically, allowing you to access the Internet via your Qwest Internet connection.

Tips & Warnings

  • Connect multiple computers by connecting the Ethernet cable from the modem to a router. Each computer can then have its own Ethernet cable connected to the router.
