How to Change the Hits in Joomla

Joomla is a content management system (CMS) for creating websites. A CMS system makes it easy for a user to make changes to a site without requiring programming skills. Joomla uses a Hit Counter to measure the popularity of website pages. Hit counters record one hit for every time a page is viewed. A hit counter is set up on a default basis for each page or article created in Joomla. The hit count for each Web page can be viewed by going into the administration section of the Joomla site.

  • Open a browser and log in to the administration section of the website. Append the extension "/administration" to the URL of the website to get to the administration section.

  • Navigate through the top menu to "Content," then Article Manager. Click on the title of the page where you would like to reset the hit counter. On the right menu there is a header called "Hits" and a number showing the amount of times the page has been viewed.

  • Click on the "Reset" button to set the hit counter to zero. The page will refresh and the hits will be updated.

Tips & Warnings

  • The hit count for all the pages in a Joomla site are stored in the database table called "jos_content." You can reset all the pages of a site by running the SQL statement "update jos_content set hits = 0."
