How to Change a Picture on an iPhone

The iPhone, Apple's cellphone with a built-in camera and multi-touch display, has a wallpaper image that serves as a background for the home screen. Another image serves as the wallpaper for the lock screen, which appears before you unlock the iPhone. Apple includes wallpaper images for you to use on the iPhone. If you want to use a different default wallpaper image, or a picture that you shot with your iPhone, you can easily change the wallpaper picture.

  • Press the "Home" button on your iPhone.

  • Tap "Settings" on the home screen.

  • Tap "Wallpaper." Two thumbnail images appear. The image on the left is the wallpaper for your iPhone's lock screen, and the image on the right is the wallpaper for your iPhone's home screen.

  • Tap the thumbnail of the picture you want to change. A list of picture albums appears.

  • Tap "Wallpaper" if you want to use one of the default pictures that comes already installed on the iPhone. Tap the name of a photo album if you want to use a picture that you shot with your iPhone's camera or a picture that you synced from your computer. Thumbnails appear on the screen.

  • Tap the thumbnail of a picture to select it. The default wallpaper images installed by Apple cannot change size, but you can touch one of your photos and drag it to change its position, or pinch with your thumb and finger to zoom the picture in and out.

  • Tap one of the three choices offered to set the picture as your new wallpaper. Choose from "Set Lock Screen," "Set Home Screen" or "Set Both."

  • Press the "Home" button to return to the home screen.
