How to Redeem Your MTurk Money

Save

MTurk is a website created by Amazon.com that utilizes something called "Crowdsourcing". Individuals or businesses contract out what would otherwise be time-consuming, tedious tasks to many individual workers in small tasks called "HITs", that can usually be done within a short amount of time. MTurk acts as an escrow. If the HIT requester is satisfied that the task was completed properly, the workers will have the payment credited to their Amazon payments balance. Funds can be spent as an Amazon.com gift certificate, or U.S.-based workers can have the funds direct-deposited into their bank account. Workers in India can have a bank check drafted and sent in the Rupee denomination.

Things You'll Need

  • Amazon.com account
  • Tax Identification Number or Social Security number
  • Bank routing and account number if seeking direct deposit

U.S. Citizen requesting direct bank deposit

  • Submit your bank information; specifically your bank name, routing number and account number. Do this by logging into the Mturk website as a worker, then clicking on the "Your Account" tab at the top, then the "Account Settings" link at the top middle.

  • Click the link that says "Add, edit, or delete your bank account information". You may be prompted to input your Amazon.com password before you can progress to the next step.

  • Click on the button that says "Add New Account", and fill out the information requested on the form. Submit, then choose a verification method. Follow the instructions provided on that page to either verify instantly or in five to seven business days.

  • Request direct deposit after verifying your account by choosing the "Transfer your earnings to your U.S. bank account or to your Amazon.com gift certificate balance" option on the "Your Account" page and selecting the appropriate option and the amount you wish to withdraw from your earnings.
