How to Turn Off the Phone But Keep a 3G iPhone

An iPhone is a popular phone and a good device for performing many tasks, from making high-quality phone calls to monitoring surveillance cameras located across the country. You may find yourself in a position where you cannot use the iPhone to make phone calls anymore. The iPhone has the ability to work with the phone function turned off, in the near identical fashion that an iTouch works. There are three ways to turn your iPhone call-making capabilities completely off.

Remove SIM Card

  • Remove the SIM card from your iPhone. To do this, use a paper clip or similar object. On the top of your iPhone, stick the end of the paper clip into the tiny hole to the right of the headphone jack and push down until the plastic piece pops up out of the phone.

  • Remove the plastic piece that holds your SIM card and remove the SIM card.

  • Insert the plastic SIM card holder back into the phone.

Adjust Settings

  • On your iPhone screen, locate the "Settings" icon and tap on it with your finger.

  • Notice the first item in the list titled, "Airplane Mode," and tap the "On" button to the right of it.

  • Your iPhone now has no call-making capabilities.
