How to Reduce Gmail Frequency With Android

Save

If your Android phone is constantly updating your email, you may find that its battery is draining quickly. The constant syncing with Gmail uses up battery power, which might leave you with a dead phone at inconvenient moments. To free some battery power, switch your email settings so that instead of having a constant automatic sync, you control how often your phone checks your email. You can even choose to only update the sync manually when you want to know what is in your email.

Setting Download Frequency

  • Enter the "Home" screen on your Android phone and navigate to the "Mail" option. Then select "Menu".

  • Select "More" from the menu, and then tap "Settings" to enter the settings associated with your mail accounts.

  • Navigate to the "Send and Receive" option and tap to open the email frequency settings.

  • Tap "Set Download Frequency" to change the frequency settings. You have to option to set the frequency at hourly, daily, or however you like. If you want complete control over when Gmail is downloaded onto your phone, select "Manual".

  • Save the settings and exit back to the home screen to continue using your phone.

Manually Syncing Emails

  • Enter the "Home" screen and go into the Mail setting.

  • Select "Sync" from the options to manually sync your phone and download any email.

  • Manually sync your phone whenever you wish to check and download your emails. If you wish to change the settings back so that you no longer manually sync the phone, change the settings to "As items arrive" so that your phone will continually check and download new emails.
