How to Stop Outlook From Capitalizing Every Line

When you start a new line in Microsoft Outlook, the program assumes you're beginning a new paragraph and automatically capitalizes the first letter. This can be helpful if you're a sloppy typist and miss the Shift key every once in a while, but it can quickly become annoying when you're inserting line breaks for other reasons. You can turn off this feature by changing Outlook's Autocorrect settings.

  • Click the "File" tab and select "Options."

  • Select the "Mail" tab, and then click the "Spelling and Autocorrect" button.

  • Select the "Proofing" tab, and then click the "AutoCorrect Options" button.

  • Select the "AutoCorrect" tab in the pop-up box, and then clear the check mark next to "Capitalize First Letter of Sentences." Click "OK" to save the change.
