Computer manufacturers use serial numbers to identify and distinguish each computer they produce. A laptop's serial number can usually be found on a label on the bottom of the computer, but if that label falls off or becomes unreadable, you can use a Windows 7 command to find your computer's serial number.
Click your computer's "Start" button.
Type "cmd" in the search box and press the "Enter" key to open a command prompt.
Type "wmic bios get serialnumber" and press the "Enter" key. Your laptop's serial number will be displayed on your screen.
