How to Install an Ubuntu Keyboard Layout


Ubuntu is a Linux-based operating system that is offered as open-source software, which is free to download and use. Many applications are installed with the Ubuntu operating system. In addition, thousands of open-source applications may be downloaded and installed. However, to install an Ubuntu keyboard layout, there is no need to download any additional applications or drivers. Ubuntu installs all keyboard and language support when the program is installed to the computer.

  • Click the "System" option on the top task bar in the Ubuntu desktop.

  • Click the "Preferences" option in the System menu.

  • Click the "Keyboard" option.

  • Click the tab labeled "Layouts." The Keyboard Layout dialog box appears.

  • Click the "Add" button. A keyboard graphic appears, along with two dialog boxes on top of the window.

  • Click the "Country" drop-down box and select the Keyboard Layout Country.

  • Click the "Variants" drop-down box and select a language variant, if desired.

  • Click the "Add" button. The keyboard layout is added.

  • Click the newly added keyboard layout and click the "Move Up" button. The keyboard layout is now set as the default.
