How to Fix a "Dragon Age: Origins" Memory Leak

"Dragon Age: Origins" was released in 2009 for several platforms, including the Sony PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The game features role-playing action in a fantasy world as the player takes control of a Grey Warden defending the realm of Ferelden against a dark enemy host, called the Dark Spawn. The Windows version of the game, when un-patched, has a memory leak issue that slows loading times to a crawl after several scenes in the game. Patching the game to the latest update (which as of publication is version 1.04) fixes the memory leak issue.

  • Download the "Dragon Age: Origins" 1.04 patch from the Bioware website. The patch is 90 megabytes in size. Save the "DragonAge1.04.exe" patch file to your desktop or any other easy-accessible location.

  • Double click on "DragonAge1.04.exe" to bring up the patch screen.

  • Click the "Finish" button to close the patch screen after the progress bar completes. You can now delete the patch file.

Tips & Warnings

  • The "Ultimate Edition" of "Dragon Age: Origins" is version 1.04 at installation and does not need to be patched.
  • Installing the "Dragon Age: Awakenings" expansion pack requires you to re-install the 1.04 patch.
