Often, the fasted way to turn a paper document into a text document is by scanning it. Though most scanners offer the option of scanning your image into a document, these documents do not work with the 2007 version of Microsoft Office. If your wish to edit a scanned image in Microsoft Office 2007, you can use the Microsoft Office Document Imaging add-on to Microsoft Office to convert your scanned image to text.

Instructions

  1. Install Microsoft Office Document Imaging

      Quit all of the programs currently open on your computer and click on the Start button. Scroll to "Control Panel."

      Click "Programs" then "Programs and Features." Scroll to the line that reads "Microsoft Office Word," right-click on it and select "Change."

      Press the button that reads "Add or Remove Features" then the button that reads "Continue."

      Press the plus sign to open the Installation Options menu and locate the line that reads "Microsoft Office Document Imaging." Click on the arrow located next to this line then select "Run All from Computer." Click on the button that reads "Continue."

    Converting the File

      Right-click on the icon of the document you have just scanned and scroll to "Open With." Select "Paint."

      Click on the "File" menu within Paint and scroll to "Save As." Enter a new name in the "Name" field and click on the "File Type" drop-down menu. Scroll to "TIFF" and press the "Save" or "OK" button. Quit paint.

      Press the "Start" button and then select "All Programs." Scroll to "Microsoft Office," then "Microsoft Office Tools." Select "Microsoft Office Document Imaging."

      Click on the "File" menu within the Microsoft Office Document Imaging window. Scroll to "Open" and highlight the TIFF file you have just saved. Press the button that reads "Open." The program will automatically open this image as text.

      Click anywhere in the document and press the keys "Control" and "A" at the same time. Right-click on the highlighted text and scroll to "Copy."

      Double-click on the Microsoft Word icon to launch the program. Click on the "File" menu and scroll to "Create New."

      Right-click anywhere in the document and scroll to "Paste."
