How to Make Pearl Beads for the Border of a Cake
Pearl beads add an instant professional finish to cakes. Turn an amateur cake attempt into something presentable by adding pearl beads made from fondant around the perimeter of the cake. You can use any color of fondant to make beads to match the cake decoration. Pearl beads in contrasting colors also brighten up a dull-colored cake. Use edible iridescent powder or edible glitter available at craft stores to add a pearly touch to fondant beads. Roll the beads well so they do not appear flattened against the cake. Pinch off a lemon-size piece of fondant and roll it into a ball.

Roll the fondant into a cylinder between your palms. Place the fondant on a clean and dry work surface and roll it about 1/8-inch thick, like a thin rope.

Cut fondant into beads using a round icing tip. Use a tip that corresponds with the size of the pearls desired. A smaller icing tip will make smaller beads.

Roll the cut out beads into balls and place in a resealable plastic bag. Add 1/2 tsp. of pearl dust in the bag and shake the beads to coat them evenly.
