How to Recover a File From Dropbox

Dropbox is a Web-powered backup and synchronization tool that is primarily used to sync files between multiple computers and devices. You can recover files stored in your Dropbox that have been unintentionally deleted or lost through the Dropbox Web interface. You can also restore prior versions of files that you have updated in the event that you need access to data that is no longer available in the current version of the file. The data recovery process is straightforward and takes only a few moments to complete.

  • Log into your Dropbox account. Click the folder from which you need to recover a file.

  • Click "Show deleted files" in the Dropbox toolbar to view files that have been deleted from the selected folder.

  • Click the check box beside a file you want to recover. Click "More" in the Dropbox toolbar, then "Undelete" to recover the file. It will be restored to the folder on your computer as soon as the Dropbox software syncs the change.

  • Click the check box beside a file you want to restore to a previous version. Click "More" in the Dropbox toolbar, then "Previous Versions." All stored versions of the file will be displayed. Restore a previous version by clicking the appropriate radio button, then "Restore."
