How to Wrap Text in Mozilla Thunderbird

Mozilla Thunderbird is a free desktop email client that is based on the same technology that Mozilla Firefox uses. When text wrapping is enabled, Thunderbird splits text on one line onto several lines so that it can be more easily read without having to scroll horizontally. Thunderbird has a variety of text wrapping settings, but they aren't exposed in the default user interface. You can set them from the advanced configuration window.

  • Click the "Tools" menu at the top of the Mozilla Thunderbird window and click "Options."

  • Click the "Advanced" icon at the top of the Options window that appears, and click the "Config Editor" button in the Advanced pane.

  • Click the "I'll Be Careful, I Promise" button in the window that appears.

  • Type "Wrap" into the filter box at the top of the window.

  • Right-click the "mail.compose.wrap_to_window_width" setting if it's set to false, and click "Toggle" to set it to true.

  • Right-click the "mail.wrap_long_lines," "news.wrap_long_lines" and "view_source.wrap_long_lines" settings if they're set to false, and click "Toggle" to set them to true.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Configuration Editor window contains a variety of advanced options; don't change them unless you know what you're doing.
