How to Upload an Image as Your Background on the New YouTube

Customize your YouTube channel by uploading a picture for the background.

The background image on your YouTube channel page tells visitors about your personality, interests and the types of videos you upload and share. For example, if your background image is a close-up shot of a gaping crocodile mouth, visitors could presume that you're interested in presenting wild nature videos, while if the background image shows test tubes and microscopes, it's a good chance that you're interested in science. It's easy to upload a background image to your YouTube account.

Instructions

1. Go to the YouTube website (youtube.com) and log in to your account.

2. Click on your user name pull-down menu at the top of the page, and then click "My Channel."

3. Click the "Themes and Colors" option, and then click "Show Advanced Options."

4. Click "Background Image."

5. Click "Choose File." A dialog box appears.

6. Click a folder on your hard drive that has the picture you want to use for your background, and then click on the image file to select it, and then click "Choose."

7. Click "Save Changes." The image now appears as the background on your YouTube account.
