You can manually create a home wireless network to use with your iPod Touch.

The Apple iPod touch devices includes a Wi-Fi antenna for connecting to wireless networks and running web-based apps. However, if your house has only a wired Ehernet network, your iPod touch will not be able access the Internet. To get around this problem, you can manually add a wireless network on your home computer that will share an Ethernet connection and enable the iPod touch to connect to it.

Instructions

  1. Windows Instructions

      Open the Start menu and click on "Control Panel."

      Go to the "Network and Internet" section and click on the item labeled "Network and Sharing Center."

      Click on the "Manage network connections" link on the left side of the window.

      Right-click on the icon for your Ethernet connection and choose "Properties" from the contextual menu.

      Go to the "Sharing" tab at the top of the pop-up window.

      Check the box next to "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection."

      Hit "OK" to save the settings and create a local wireless network for your iPod touch.

    Mac Instructions

      Click on the "System Preferences" icon in the dock.

      Go to the "Sharing" control panel underneath the "Internet & Wireless" heading.

      Place a check mark in the box next to "Internet Sharing" in the list of services on the left side of the window.

      Open the "Share your connection from" drop-down menu and choose "Ethernet."

      Select "Airport" from the "To computers using" section. Your Mac will now create a local wireless network that your iPod Touch can access.
