How to Make Words Out of an Image in Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop is an excellent tool for editing images; it even lets you add text to the images just in case your picture needs to be worth a thousand and one words. But what if you want to turn your picture into words? You can accomplish this with the Photoshop type mask tool. This way you can create a picture that is worth one word -- your word.

  • Open the image that you want to turn into words in Photoshop.

  • Click "Window" and select "Layer" to activate the layer panel. Click on the "New Layer" icon at the bottom of the layer panel.

  • Double-click on the background layer to unlock it if necessary.

  • Select the "Horizontal Type Mask" tool, which is located under the "Type" tool.

  • Type the desired words in the new layer. A selection of the typed text will appear on the screen.

  • Adjust the font and size as desired. Thicker font styles will display more of your picture. Press "Control" and "Enter" to exit the horizontal type tool.

  • Select the "Move" tool and reposition the text as desired.

  • Click on "Select" and select "Transform." Adjust the image as desired. Press "Control" and "Enter" when finished.

  • Click on "Select" and select "Inverse."

  • Select the layer with the image.

  • Press "Delete" to remove the portion of the image that is not part of the word.
