How to Automatically Remove Underlining in Emails

In Microsoft Word, email addresses are automatically hyperlinked and underlined. There are ways to automatically remove hyperlinks in Word documents. Some email programs may also automatically underline email addresses and establish them as hyperlinks. There is usually a way in your options or preferences to disable this feature. The exact steps will vary by program, but there are some general guidelines to follow when you want to automatically remove underlines in your emails.

  • Click “Options” on the “File” menu in Microsoft Word 2010.

  • Select “Proofing” and then “AutoCorrect Options.”

  • Choose the “AutoFormat as you type” tab. Click to clear the “Internet and network paths with hyperlink” check-box. Choose the “AutoFormat” tab and unclick the same box.

  • Click “OK" to save the changes.

  • Open up your email program.

  • Select the “Mail Preferences” or “Settings” option.

  • Find the hyperlink section and disable automatic hyperlinks. If you can’t find the appropriate option, go to the “Help” section in your email program.
