How to Edit a PNG File in Fireworks

The Portable Network Graphics (PNG) file format is one of many graphic formats (GIF, JPEG, BMP etc.) widely used on the web and elsewhere where graphics are used. Adobe Fireworks is a graphics editing program originally developed by Macromedia and acquired by Adobe in 2005. Adobe Fireworks supports PNG, and with its many graphics editing tools, can be used for creating or editing PNG file formats.

  • Open Adobe Fireworks.

  • Click "File" and then "Open."

  • Locate and select your PNG graphic and click "Open." Your graphic is now displayed onto the Fireworks canvas screen.

  • Start editing your PNG graphic. Click "Window" on the top menu bar and then click "Tools" to show the "Tool box" docking window. Select and apply the various graphics editing tools on the tool box to your PNG file.

  • Click "Windows" and then click "Properties." Use the properties window to increase or decrease the size of your graphic.

  • Click "Modify," "Transform" and select the various options for shaping, skewing and rotating your PNG file.

  • Click "Filters," "Sharpen" and use these various tools to sharpen and smooth out your PNG file.

  • Click "File" and then "Save as." Select "Fireworks .png" as the "Save as type:" in the box and then click "Save" to save your PNG file on your computer.
