How to Send Google Map Routes to a Garmin

Save

Planning a trip in the city or out of town begins with preparation especially if you are unfamiliar with the route. A Garmin GPS device will help navigate the trip. Search for the directions on Google Maps and send it directly to your Garmin device for easy access on the trip instead of printing out pages of directions. The Garmin will tell you the directions while driving preventing you from having to read them on paper and causing an accident if traveling alone.

  • Connect your Garmin GPS device to your computer with the USB cable that came with the device.

  • Open Google Maps on your Internet browser on the computer.

  • Click on "Get Directions" on the left side of the page. Type the starting point and ending destination into the provided form. Click "Get Directions." The directions and a map will load.

  • Click "Send" on the top right hand corner above the map. Click "GPS." Browse the different GPS devices listed and click on "Garmin."

  • Type any notes into the "Note" box if necessary and click "Send." The map and the directions will load to your attached Garmin device shortly.
