The circulation of counterfeit money is a concern to business owners on a daily basis. However, during holidays or times when the economy is experiencing a downturn, the occurrence of counterfeit bills often increases. A counterfeit detector pen has been developed and is designed to be simple to use by cashiers and others in front-line customer service positions. Learning to use a counterfeit detector pen is a requirement of some positions that involve the handling of money.
Things You'll Need
- Counterfeit detector pen
Place a piece of United States currency on a flat counter or other smooth work surface.
Remove the top from the counterfeit detector pen.
Place the tip of the pen on the currency and make a small mark across the surface.
Wait up to 30 seconds for the chemical in the detector pen to work.
Read the results of the detector pen test. Observe the currency for the pen mark to remain clear or turn amber in color to indicate the currency is genuine. Look for the mark to turn dark brown or black, indicating the currency is counterfeit.
