Milk bags are the plastic bags that hold three smaller clear plastic bags of milk. According to Heather Ellis, a community employment program instructor at Trenton High School, it takes 250 bags to crochet a 30-inch by 48-inch waterproof mat. Mats sizes can be tailored to fit either adults or children.
Things You'll Need
- Milk bags
- Crochet hook
Prepare Milk Bags for Chrocheting
Remove any tears or stretched plastic from the bags by cutting them from the bag and disposing them at a community recycling center.
Cut along the seam on the bottom of the bag so that both ends of the bag are open.
Cut strips measuring between 1 1/4 inches and 1 1/2 inches. The strips should be cut from side to side, producing a loop.
Chain two loops together by placing one inside the other to make a "T" and lightly tightening the knot. Continue chaining the loops until you have your desired length.
Use a 7mm to 10mm crochet hook and crochet the loops.
