How to Reset a FreePBX Password

Save

FreePBX is a program that allows you to access and control Asterisk software. Asterisk is an open-source telephone system software that allows programmers to create and manage their inter-office telephone systems. Once FreePBX is installed on your computer, you will be able to access your Asterisk files and edit them as you see fit. Using FreePBX, you can reset the passwords used in your company by editing two files on your system.

  • Open "FreePBX." Click the "File" button at the top of the screen to access the File menu. Click "Open," select "manager.conf" and click "Open."

  • Scroll through the file until you find a section that reads "[admin], secret = secret123password." The part of the file that comes after "Secret =" is your current password. Secret123password is the default password. To change it, highlight this section, and replace it with what you want the password to be reset to.

  • Click "File" followed by "Save" at the top of the window to save your changes. Do not edit any other lines in this file, as this could cause the system not to work properly. Once you have done this, click "File" then "Open" again and open the "amportal.conf" file.

  • Scroll through the file until you find the lines "AMPMGRUSER=admin, AMPMGRPASS=secret123password." Just as you did in Step 2, change the "secret123password" to the same password that you entered. These passwords must match exactly. Click "File" then "Save" to return to the main screen.

  • Click the "Apply Configuration Changes" button that appears in the main window to save your changes.
