How to Block Ads on Ustream

Save

Ustream places several types of ads into streams, including onscreen banners and video ads that play both at the start of and during streaming. These ads support Ustream, which provides free streaming both to viewers and broadcasters, but interrupt viewing and can cause you to miss live content. To avoid seeing these ads, you can either buy a premium membership or subscribe to a broadcasting plan.

Ustream Premium Membership

  • Sign in to Ustream with the account you use to watch streams.

  • Visit the premium membership signup page (link in Resources).

  • Enter your name and credit card information, and then agree to the terms of service.

  • Click "Purchase." As of 2014, Ustream charges you $3.99 immediately and automatically renews your subscription every month until you cancel.

Ustream Pro Broadcasting

  • Log in to Ustream with the account you use to broadcast.

  • Visit the Pro Broadcasting plan list (link in Resources).

  • Click "Select Plan" underneath the plan you want to buy. Note that each plan has a different number of ad-free viewer hours. Alternatively, click "Start Free Trial" to immediately receive 30 days of ad-free broadcasting for up to five viewers.

  • Press "Buy Now" by the billing cycle you want to use if you picked the Pro Gold plan. Pro Silver only offers monthly billing and does not display this option.

  • Enter your billing information, and then press "Complete Purchase."

Tips & Warnings

  • Premium memberships also include a unique profile icon, and a badge and bold text in stream chats.
  • The Pro Silver broadcasting plan includes 100 ad-free viewer hours, with additional hours offered at 50 cents each. The Pro Gold plan includes 2,000 hours, and additional hours cost 25 cents each. One viewer watching your stream for one hour counts as one viewer hour.
  • For larger audiences, personal support and other advanced features for using Ustream as a corporation, contact Ustream for an enterprise-level broadcasting plan.
