How to Sync Picasa With an IPad

Save

While Google has had a Picasa app for Mac computers for years, it has yet to fully integrate its photo service with iOS devices like the Apple iPad. Not all is lost, however, for Picasa fans. You can still sync your iPad with your Picasa albums. One way to do this is to use Google+ to bridge the iPad to Picasa Web Albums. Another way is to use a third-party app like Photosync or Web Albums HD for Picasa and Google+. These aren't free apps, but they will get the job done quickly.

Using Web Albums HD for Picasa and Google+

  • Download Web Albums HD for Picasa and Google+ from the Apple App Store on your iPad. This is a premium app. The cost is charged to the credit card associated with your Apple ID.

  • Launch the app when it has finished downloading. Select "Picasa Web Account" and enter your Picasa username and password.

  • Tap "Test Account Settings" to load your Picasa albums to the iPad app. Select any album to open it and to see the photos inside.

Using Google+ and Picasa Web Albums

  • Create an account at Picasa Web Albums if you don't already have one (see Resources for link). You can also log in with an existing Gmail or Google account. Note that the URL changes to a Google+ website.

  • Upload your photos to Picasa Web Albums using the Upload Photos button at the top of the page. You can also create albums to organize your photos. By default, photos are private, but you can change the permissions so friends on Google+ can see them.

  • Download and install the Google+ app for your iPad from the Apple App Store. After you launch the app, sign in with your Google account. Tap the "Menu" icon and then tap the "Photos" option (with the Picasa logo) to display all of your uploaded photos.

  • Tap the "Menu" icon to go to the Google+ home screen, then the "Photo" icon. This opens your camera roll, so you can add any photos from the iPad's Photo app to your Picasa Web Album. Tapping the "Camera" icon lets you take a photo using the iPad's camera, which is added to your Picasa photos collection.

Using PhotoSync

  • Purchase PhotoSync in the iPad's Apple App Store. The cost of the app is charged to your credit card.

  • Launch the app and allow it access to your Camera Roll when requested so it can display your photos.

  • Select the photos that you want to sync from the iPad to Picasa, then tap the red "Sync" button. Tap the Google+/Picasa button. The first time you do this, you are prompted to authenticate your Google account. Tap "OK," then sign in with your Google account email address and password. The photos are transferred to your Picasa account.

  • Import photos from your Picasa Web albums by tapping the the red "Sync" button and selecting the photos you want to import. Note that you must first authenticate the app with your Google account by first sending a photo from the app to Picasa.
