How to Hook Up a Brother MFC-7340 to Receive Faxes

The Brother MFC-7340 is a compact all-in-one laser printer, designed for use in both home and office environments. The MFC-7340 is designed to not only print documents from your computer, but to also make copies, scan documents and send and receive faxes. The MFC-7340 plugs directly into a phone jack on the wall using a standard telephone cable, and is ready to receive faxes almost immediately. After making the connections, set the receive mode on the MFC-7340 and you're ready to receive faxes.

  • Plug the telephone cable into the telephone jack on the wall. Plug the other end of the cable into the telephone port on the top-center portion of the MFC-7340.

  • Open the "Receive Mode" settings on the printer. To open the settings, press the "Menu" button and then press "0" followed by "1."

  • Use the "up" and "down" arrow buttons to cycle through the available receive modes. If the printer is connected to a dedicated fax line, select "Fax Only." If using an external telephone answering device to answer your calls, select "External TAD." Select "Fax/Tel" when the fax line doubles as a voice line and choose "Manual" to manually answer faxes.

  • Press "OK" to save your receive settings and then press "Stop/Exit" to exit the menu.
